winter

This has been a long winter. I'd love to say it's been dormant, we've been hibernating and relaxing but SO far 2013 has proved...busy. Having 2 children really is different than having 1. Twice the laundry, dishes, twice the playing, twice the toys to pick up, twice the car seats to buckle, twice the naps and bedtime, twice the lunches and dinner plates to make but of course twice the love.

As our Cooper grows he is certainly showing off his personality. I think its safe to say he will be a lot like his dad, surrounded by constant accidents, drama and mishaps. If Jason doesn't have a pending surgery, truck to fix, broken phone, flat tire or monthly trip to the emergency room for nearly cutting off a limb then it's not a normal week around here. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. This January our little walking wrecking ball turned one.

We had a cute little party for our babes, our little man. He's so handsome and I had to see him in a bow tie. So I cooked up a mustache and bow tie little man bash. Just like Teag we do a theme party, but at a low cost. This party was basically balloons, a cake and some decor. I had some help from Ashley at Heartmade Life- she made the bow ties for Cooper and his friends which were beyond adorable. I bought a print your own template on Etsy.com that matched the theme and DIY made the 12 month calendar garland. Then I ordered some mustache suckers, napkins and cups and VIOLA! Simple and cute for my little man. He was spoiled by our friends and family with gifts, a drum set, teeter totter, books & jammies. He is well-loved.

Other than the rocking party, we have been busy with our own family life. Trying very hard to stick to my New Years goals! (yes!) I am making better meals, pinterest recipes galore. Perimeter shopping at the store and my new best friend is the crockpot. Hot meal ready when we walk in the door- nothing better. Jason has been busy with night classes, I have been spending lots of time cleaning out closets and trying to simplify our home, we just have too many unnecessary things. We updated our master bedroom and bathroom with some paint. I have played and played and played some more with the boys.  I have relaxed some this winter, bedtime between 8-9pm, I have read 13 books! I paid off some bills and we're trying very hard to get our of those little debts so easily racked up, lots of date nights- went to see a comedian, a concert at this tiny old church called The Muse Theatre (the best) dinners, fundraisers, like I said- busy. I have gotten involved with some community things I have been meaning to do like the Tomah Area Professional Women's Association, Breast Cancer fundraiser, a photographer party, dinners with friends. It's been a lovely winter, even though it's snows weekly. (It's forecasted to start snowing anytime now).

I think I am in for a shock once wedding season swings around here in May. I have had so much downtime, family time, husband time I wonder what will happen when I have to add in editing time, blogging time, email time. I can only hope this year is the year I find that balance. I have 15 incredible weddings ahead of me, 15 weekends dedicated to others, late night editing and blogging. As my kids grow, I only hope this continues to work.

SO with our goals in line and set for the year, we press on into 2013. We can only hope to stick to these goals and see where we are this time next year! I am going to continue our family blog during this year with photos of family adventures and spilling my guts about whatever I need to vent about.

Here is a little at home photo shoot we did early February with my friend Theresa behind the camera- I think knowing someone helps capture them. I have worked with Theresa for a couple years now, I know she knows how we function as a family and that's how we ended up with these images- real and full of life and totally us. We treasure these.
